Honestly, guys, I’m in love with this picture.

I didn’t pay attention to plot inconsistencies or the excessive sweetness of the story. For me, this sincere film is about love that happens suddenly but does not choose a perfect time. Despite the heavy story, the tape reminds me of a good fairy tale with a life ending.

What is the Labour Day movie about?

1987. Adele is single and has a teenage son. She is hungry for love, care, and tenderness, and the woman lost hope of loving and being loved. She feels so lost and tired. But one day, everything changed! A criminal appears in her life, and the police throughout the district are chasing him. Hiding in Adele`s house, the man showed himself to be a caring and decent family man.

D. Reitman created a gentle and subtle melodrama based on the novel by Joyce Maynard. Thanks to the wonderful acting ( Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin) and music by composer Rolfe Kent, your heart will clench even more.

It’s a lonely hearts duet.

Depression reigns in Adele’s house: it lies in a thick layer of dust on old furniture, creaks in unison with the front door and accumulates in the gutters with last year’s leaves. Some inescapable grief cut deep wrinkles into Adele’s face. Only the presence of her growing son makes this woman get up in the morning, cook breakfast and mend clothes.

And then she finds herself at the mercy of a dangerous alpha male, who ties her up, spoon-feeds her, washes the floors, cooks, and raises her son. I have listed many things that will send a lot of women into ecstasy!

A fugitive criminal sweeps depression from all corners of her mind and teaches her to enjoy simple things again. Over a few days, Adele’s heart remembers what it means to pump blood through its veins and frantically ask for love.

A strong male shoulder in this story is not as romantic as it is vital. Kate Winslet not only played an unhappy woman here, but she carried the entire dramatic component of the film on her fragile shoulders.

Frank’s story is not so clear at first glance. He is a criminal, but in essence, he is entirely far from this definition. Its ambiguity makes it even more attractive. Frank committed a terrible act, but soon, you will want to give him a chance to start life from scratch.

By the way, if you look closely, it is clear that Frank does absolutely all his actions for his benefit. He does not have a single truly selfless act. His new plan guarantees escape and freedom for him!

Of course, a teenage son is not so silly. But the fact is that the problem of upbringing and the lack of a man in the house makes itself felt. Oddly enough, Frank helps him overcome this period least painlessly. He teaches Henry purely male activities: playing baseball, changing tires, and teaching him to protect his woman, which helps him realize and take his place in life. And for these six days, Frank takes his father’s empty place. I believe that this experience will help Henry in the future.

And I think it is perfect that the main character in the film is still Henry. So, we look at everything through the prism of his teenage boy’s view. Otherwise, the film would have completely turned into a female love drama. With Henry’s thoughts and points, everything is balanced, and meanings are added.

In general, the film is terrific! There is so little dialogue, only gestures and glances, but this is enough to make you fall in love with this film!

I recommend it to everyone without exception—especially mothers of teenage boys.

Final words.

Is Labor Day film worth watching? I cried after finishing this drama. There are no bad characters in the film, just tricky circumstances and a lot of care, tenderness, and kindness.

Labor Day is full of lyricism and is well suited for letting you cry under a warm blanket in front of the TV. And if you wash it down with mulled wine, it’s generally excellent.
