It’s no secret that guys usually prefer action movies, while their girlfriends are much more interested in melodramas. What movie should a couple watch so that both like it?
Beautiful stories, adventures and passionate relationships – I made a list of movies for date night at home for couples. Some tapes are big hits and well-known pictures, and some are hidden gems, but any of these romance movies will make the weekend in bed hot and not boring.

365 Days, 2020
Massimo Torricelli is the son of a deceased Sicilian mafioso who took over the family business. Laura Biel’s life is not as bright as Massimo’s – she is just a director at a hotel. To shake things up, Laura and her friend fly to Sicily, where the heroine crosses paths with the handsome Massimo. The man kidnaps the girl and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him.
So, 365 Days is a Polish erotic drama 18+: an explosive mix of the type “The Godfather” and “50 Shades of Grey”. Right on the shore: the film is not a masterpiece, but this picture will definitely add some spice to your movie date. The confrontation of bright personalities and mutual seduction is so fascinating to watch.

Friends with Benefits, 2011
Dylan and Jamie, both disappointed in serious relationships, agree that there will only be casual sex between them. However, they gradually fall in love with each other.
The comedy, marked with “18+,” fully justifies its rating. I loved jokes that brought incredible zest to all the characters’ dialogue and the overall narrative. There are also plenty of naked scenes in the film, but we hasten to disappoint you: Mila Kunis refused to act in them but chose a stunt double who did it for her.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona, 2008
How can a vacation in Barcelona end for two young ladies from the USA? They fall under the charm of the Spanish city and plunge headlong into hot Spanish passions. Their new acquaintance, the artist Antonio, appeals to both but clarifies that he is not against a love affair with them simultaneously. The love triangle first develops into a quadrangle and then into a parallelepiped.
From the film’s first minutes, we are immersed in the heady, spicy atmosphere of the capital of Catalonia: blood-red wine, light pouring everywhere, incredible architecture, enchanting guitar sounds, lush greenery… As a result, Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a delicious, charming, entertaining movie.
Dirty Dancing, 1987
Summer 1963. 17-year-old Frances, nicknamed Baby, spends her holidays with her parents in a resort hotel, where she meets Johnny, a handsome professional dancer. Bewitched by Johnny’s unrestrained “dirty dancing” movements, Baby becomes Johnny’s student and partner in dance and love.
An old film only gets better with time. It can definitely be watched an infinite number of times, especially if you are a romantic. The scene in the lake is very sensual, and the way Johnny beckons Baby to dance, backing her with his finger, is just fire.
Killing Me Softly, 2002
In a couple of hours of communication, the spark between the characters flares up into a huge fire, and they are already in bed. It is a film full of passionate intimacy, the scenes of which are filmed very well.
As a result, you will find an intriguing plot with a criminal touch, a slightly viscous atmosphere, beautiful autumn landscapes, ideal bodies and music that excites the imagination.
Vanilla Sky, 2001
Handsome playboy, David led an easy life. He had money, a business, an expensive car, and the love of women. And then, when he met that special woman but had not yet had time to say goodbye to his ex, he got into a car accident and became disabled with a disfigured face.
Do you like beautiful and smart movies, after which there is something to talk about? Then, try to fly into Vanilla Sky. I have already lost count of how many times I have watched this picture. And every time I watch this movie, I immerse myself in this masterpiece again and again.
Original Sin, 2001
From love to hate is one step. That is what the love story that happened in Cuba about a hundred years ago convinces us of. A wealthy merchant, Luis Antonio Vargas, would marry an American, a pleasant and modest girl, for family happiness.
Expectations were unmet. The wife turned out to be a femme fatale, capable of drawing anyone into the abyss of sin. Vargas very quickly moved from “I love her” to “I want to kill her.” The film is incredibly passionate, powerful, and emotionally charged! It will leave behind indescribable impressions.
Basic Instinct, 1992
Detective Nick Curran is investigating a sexually motivated murder. Suspicion falls on the murdered man’s girlfriend, Catherine, a writer and author of shocking novels who, in her latest book, described in detail an identical crime. But the charming, incredibly sexy writer can manipulate men, awakening one of their most basic instincts.
Director Verhoeven’s first discovery was the combination of erotica, melodrama, and thriller. The film gained its notoriety thanks to the scene during the writer Catherine Tramell’s interrogation when she indifferently throws one leg over the other, letting the unbending detective Curran know she is not wearing underwear.
Her, 2013
Theodore, a lonely writer, buys a new technology—an operating system designed to fulfill any user’s wish. To Theodore’s surprise, a romance soon develops between him and the operating system.
Her is my movie. It is a real work of art, in which everything is so harmonious and beautiful that you do not want to take your eyes off the screen even for a second. Her is an escape from loneliness, problems, and sometimes too monotonous a reality. And, of course, it is a movie for romantics, aesthetes, philosophers, and all those who love real cinema. Ghost, 1990
Successful financier Sam is a true master of fate: a high position, a great apartment, and his beloved girlfriend, Molly. It seems that a life full of achievements and victories awaits the couple. But soon, he dies at the hands of street robbers. However, his soul cannot go to another world until he finishes earthly affairs. Therefore, he has to turn to the medium Oda Mae for help and save his beloved Molly from danger.
Ghost isn’t about sinking into gloom. It’s meant to help us rise from depression, reminding us that love is more powerful than death itself. And it is one of my favorite romance movies for couples to watch together.
About Time, 2013
It is a fantastic melodrama about a young man who can travel in time. He uses this gift not to solve some world conflicts but to achieve his main dream—to build a personal life. For his beloved to love him, Tim is ready to repeat the first date again and again until she falls in love with him at first sight.
If you love good European cinema, this movie is a great pick. Its sunny romance story will melt your heart!
The Age of Adaline, 2015
Adaline Bowman was born at the very beginning of the 20th century. Before she was 29, she managed to get married, give birth to a daughter, become a widow and… immortal. Because of a lightning strike that hit her while Adaline was drowning in a river, her cells stopped dividing, and she stopped aging. The woman managed to keep the secret a secret for some time, but now she changes her name, passport, and place of residence every 10 years. Her daughter has since turned eighty, and Adaline is still 29. Only a meeting with a charming young man, Elisse, makes her stop running from the past.
It is a beautiful film about eternal youth, which can be sacrificed for the sake of true love. Those who are fond of fashion will be especially delighted by the movie because Adaline caught all the trends and styles of the 20th century, and her clothes combine things from different eras.
Silver Linings Playbook, 2012
Former school teacher Pat returns to his parent’s home after spending eight months in a psychiatric hospital. He is obsessed with reconciling with his ex-wife, whom he has no right to approach by court order. But meeting an eccentric girl, Tiffany lights a ray of hope in Pat.
Whereas an ordinary romantic story would end it, limiting itself to a banal thought about the power and benefits of love. The director of this film adds an important and fat postscript: love itself as a feeling is useless without such concepts as compassion, participation, and understanding.

WALL-E, 2008
Love is different and unpredictable, and it flares up not only in people’s hearts. It is a cartoon from Disney and Pixar, where a dirty, ignorant robot, WALL-E, clearing the Earth of garbage mountains, falls in love with a snow-white advanced robot, EVE. This story will not leave any heart indifferent.
This cartoon is terrific! It has everything – the most beautiful graphics, funny characters, and a fascinating plot. With the help of those stingy emotions that their creators endowed them with, the robots play out such a drama that you are amazed.
This Means War, 2012
CIA agents Tuck and Franklin are not just partners; they are also friends. Having decided to quit their single lives, they simultaneously register on a dating site. What luck! Both immediately find their soul mates. They are very happy, but it soon turns out that the friends are in love with the same girl, Lauren, who can’t decide who she likes more, Franklin or Tuck.
It is a film with mind-blowing and spectacular fight scenes, love affairs, and unhackneyed humor, which is rare nowadays. It is also an excellent comedy about real male friendship and relationships with a girl. Watch and enjoy!
Life as We Know It, 2010
Holly Berenson is a bakery owner, and Eric Messer is a promising technical director for sports broadcasts. After a fateful first date, the only thing they have in common is hatred for each other and love for their goddaughter, Sophie. But when they suddenly become the only ones left with Sophie, Holly and Messer are forced to forget their differences. To reconcile their career ambitions and disparate leisure plans, they will still have to find at least something that unites them because, from now on, they will have to live under the same roof.
Life is very changeable and, most importantly, unpredictable. That is probably what makes it more valuable. This is a wonderful and touching film and very instructive. There is everything here: jokes, tears, and love—love in the broad sense of the word—love for life, for work, for a person, for yourself, for a child.
Long Shot, 2019
It is a love story between an indie journalist who lost his job and the US Secretary of State who plans to run for president. Yes, in the world of rom-coms, this is possible.
Walking on screen in luxurious outfits, Theron charms with her relaxed acting and smile. After her look, all the film’s political topics and environmental problems dissolve like ice in a martini glass. The combination of diplomatic gloss and boyish manners invigorates and makes you laugh until you hurt. This movie could be one of the best Valentine’s Day movies for couples.

He is far from an angel. He is a tall, daring guy obsessed with cars. She is a model student, a blonde beauty from a rich family. Their love is forbidden and, therefore, doubly desirable. Passion burns them to the ground and throws them into the abyss.
Before us is a film about first love—love that has not yet been spoiled by anything or anyone, with an absence of halftones and where every question is a matter of life and death. It turned out to be a very believable and comprehensive love story with well-developed characters. It is dedicated to hopeless romantics.

One adventurous night in New York, and the life of a composer in deep creative crisis turns upside down,
It is one of those romantic comedies strikingly different from everything we have seen on the screen. The plot here is fascinating and develops in entirely unpredictable directions. The main character finds himself in a love triangle that is difficult to escape. The cast is marvelous! After all, Hollywood movie giants such as Peter Dinklage, Anne Hathaway, and Marisa Tomei played the leading roles.
Midnight Sun, 2017
At night, 17-year-old Katie composes beautiful songs with a guitar, and during the day, she is forced to hide in the darkness: her delicate skin cannot stand the sunlight. But one night, Katie meets Charlie, a cheerful guy with a charming smile. Sudden and passionate love brightens the life of a sick girl. And now, for the sake of her beloved, she is ready to burn in the rays of light of a crazy feeling.
Romance permeates every frame of Midnight Sun, but it does not seem cloying or unnatural. The director brilliantly avoids speculation, giving us an hour and a half of sincerity, love, and hope.
Playing It Cool, 2014
He, a carefree cynic and hedonist, falls in love with her at first sight. But she is already engaged and plans to get married soon. To keep his beloved, he will need all his inexhaustible imagination, as well as the help of friends, advice from his grandfather – an expert in female psychology, the ability to stand up for himself in a fist fight and, most importantly, to hear the voice of his own heart.
The plot is banal – l’amour-toujour—but this does not make it less enjoyable. I will note that Chris Evans’s excellent acting completely immerses us in the writer’s creative process and personal thoughts and experiences. Other male acting roles are also wonderfully played.
Just Go With It, 2011
A plastic surgeon is in love with a young teacher. To escape an awkward situation, which he got into due to his stupidity, he asks his devoted assistant to pretend to be his wife, whom he is supposedly going to divorce. One deception follows another, and a big company is going to Hawaii for the weekend.
It is an incredibly positive, incendiary, and simply sparkling film. And for me, such a low rating from film critics remains a true mystery. Yes, the picture does not carry great artistic value, but the film is not competing for an Oscar. My special ‘thank you’ to Nick Swardson; his characters are having fun to the fullest.
An Officer and a Gentleman, 1984
Zack Mayo enters a military school that trains naval pilots. At the same time, he falls in love with a local girl but tries to curb his feelings so that he does not tie himself down in marriage. It is one of the best romance movies I have been lucky enough to watch in a long time.
This tape is about friendship, love, betrayal, mutual assistance, bright feelings and disappointments, and the everyday life of difficult cadets in a military school. It is an excellent film with a wonderful cast.

But Romeo and Juliet remain teenagers, and Shakespeare’s divine lines now sound from the lips of street fighters and drug addicts. Times change, people change, and life changes, but true love is eternal.
Music and Lyrics, 2007
Alex Fletcher was once a superstar, but over time, his popularity faded and almost disappeared. But chance can give him another chance – Alex is offered to record a duet with a mega-popular singer. Alex had to write lyrics for a song in a couple of days to do this. Our hero has never written a line in his life and is almost in despair, but then young Sophie appears, who has a talent for writing lyrics. Feelings soon flare up between the singer and the wayward girl.
It is a wonderful comedy! It has sweet, unobtrusive humor, no vulgarity, which is very rare today, a lot of pleasant music, interesting characters, and excellent actors. After the film, a sweet smile appears on your face and does not disappear throughout the day.
